transFORM designer Nancy Silvestri-Mazzilli helped a New Rochelle, New York family convert their entry way into an area the whole family could use. The space was transformed into a super functional mudroom, where footwear and outerwear can be removed before entering the house. Along with a full closet for additional coats.
The unit was designed in a white melamine with shaker door faces. Unlike raised panel doors, shaker style doors and drawer faces are very easy to clean. For added storage, the homeowners went with a brushed aluminum bench top complete with shelves and hooks. A functional key to any mudroom is being able to visualize and conveniently access your belongings. Coat hooks give you an instant spot to hang your favorite jacket, backpack, or purse. For added visual appeal the bench was accented with grill insert center backing, painted in a matte black for a contemporary flair. This stylish color combination is one that will impress guests as soon as they walk through the door.
Above the bench are deep open shelves designed to hold wicker or woven baskets. Storage baskets can be used for pet supplies and seasonal essentials. They are especially convenient in the winter as they allow you to quickly grab hats, scarves and gloves as you walk out the door.
With these features and accessories, Nancy was able to customize this design to fit the family’s individual needs and personal style. No matter what the seasons throw at them, their new mudroom will stand strong as the final barrier between their calm indoors and the great outdoors!
