On this International Cat Day we wanted to spotlight a few custom projects that were created with our clients' feline friends in mind. Pets are an integral part of our lives, so accommodating their needs is just as important as referencing our own in custom cabinetry designs.
Feline-Friendly Wall Unit
Recently Senior Designer Joe Egan was faced with the challenge of making an entertainment wall unit in a Columbus Circle apartment with active cats. He created an aesthetically-pleasing floating media unit backlit with LED lights and surrounded by symmetrical floating shelves. However, the shelves were not meant for displaying the clients' belongings. Their placement was strategically designed for the clients' cats to climb, play and rest on without interfering with the mounted TV set below.
Carole Radziwill's Kitty Den
If you watched award-winning journalist and author Carole Radziwill during her tenure on Bravo's The Real Housewives of New York City, you know that Carole adores her cats. Unfortunately, she didn't have enough room for them in their favorite hangout spot, her closet. That's where transFORM came in. Senior Designer Hagit Yair incorporated space in the walk-in closet for not only Carole's well-styled wardrobe and shoe collection, but custom cabinetry purrfect for storing cat supplies. There was even enough room to create a "kitty corner" complete with a cat tree and water fountain.
"When I got the cats last winter, I realized they needed their own space," said Carole. " A section of the closet is for the cats. They love it up here because they love to be in these little hidden spaces. It never worked 100%, so with the new closet they're going to have their own space."
