transFORM Tips | 5 Tips for Working from Home
If you run a business from your home or suddenly find yourself having to work from home, here are 5 ways you can stay more productive throughout the day.
Designate Your Workspace
While setting up shop on your bed (or wall bed) may sound ideal at first, it may not be the best place for you to get in a working state of mind. If you do not have a home office, carve out a space in your home dedicated solely to working, whether it's a bedroom or living room nook, a spare room, or an unused section of your walk-in closet. Make sure your space has a desk and comfortable chair as you'll be there for long stretches of time.
Unless your job is to design pajamas and you're testing samples, you should resist the urge to stay in them all day. Get dressed as if you were going to a normal office. Looking presentable will put you in a good mood for the upcoming work day.
Set Your Schedule
It's important to create a routine you can commit to. Set your work hours and stick to them. Of course if you have children, you will need to work around their schedules and be more flexible. Just remember to go back and finish any important tasks so you remain on top of your deadlines.
Invest in work supplies to keep you on track. A planner, calendar, and agenda are useful to plan ahead. You can even do this digitally with online calendars and productivity apps if you're more tech savvy. A master to-do list organized by deadlines is also helpful for goal setting.
Take a Break
While you should resist the temptation to binge watch your favorite shows all day, you should incorporate breaks into the schedule. Movement increases productivity. Get up and do a quick yoga routine or simply walk around your house. Don't forget to give yourself a lunch break and eat an energy-boosting snack to refuel your body for the remaining work hours ahead.
